What is a conservative plate boundary and what's an example?

The San Andreas Fault is an example of a conservative plate boundary. Here, the 2 plates slide past each other in opposite directions, generating friction as they do. They can also move in the same direction, just at different speeds.Earthquakes can occur here due to the plates becoming stuck every so often, hence generating earthquakes.
