What is distillation?

Distillation is a process used to seperate a liquid from a mixture of different liquids. It works on the basis that liquids have different boiling points. A common example is ethanol and water. The liquid with the lower boiling point, in this case ethanol, will evaporate first. It is then cooled and condensed inside a piece of apparatus known as a condenser.
