How do I write a news report?

To grab your reader's attention, you should begin with a catchy headline (although this may be given to you in the exam). Then your first paragraph should be a quick summary of the event that you're going to write about and it should include the four W's - Who, What, Where and When. As you continue writing your news report, go on to include Why and How. By adding Why and How later in the report, it entices your reader to carry on. Make sure to write in chronological order and to (usually) write in the past tense as the event has already happened. Including at least one eyewitness account adds believability and helps the reader connect to the report. A good way to finish a news report is to include a prediction of the future, i.e. what action is going to be taken after the event.
