When is the subjunctive triggered?

The subjunctive is known as mood rather than a tense in French as it denotes emotions such as hope, fear, desire as well as uncertainty which are triggered through certain verbs and impersonal phrases. The subjunctive is also used when there are two subjects interacting in a sentence, for example, Person A ordering person B to do something or where there is an impersonal phrase ordering one specific person to do something. A) Verbs of desire: vouloir que; desirer que B) Verbs of fear: avoir peur que; craindre que C) Other verbs of emotion: avoir honte que; s'etonner D) Verbs of knowing when there is uncertainty: se douter que E) Impersonal expressions where there may be uncertainty: Il est possible que For revision purposes, look at any textbook you may have for lists of verbs and phrases that trigger the subjunctive as well as this website which contains an in-depth list of triggers (https://www.thoughtco.com/french-subjunctive-rules-and-examples-1369323)
