That is the million dollor question! Making a personal statement (A 4,000 character) document stand out can be difficult. One point that I cannot stress enough is being yourself, from beginning to end you need to sell yourself. What makes you worthy of studying the degree you have applied for. Avoid silly sentences or long anecdotes, rather, as I found, being succinct and avioidng using long words, worked a treat. In standing out, I would say, add personality, at the end of the day, admissions tutors want to see the real you. When you are talking about your strengths and qualities, make sure you use examples to highlight your claims whenever appropriate. Also, make sure you add real subject interest, intertwine any subject experience you have, as well any relevant work experience or extra-curricular activities you have done. Overall, be yourself and be clear. Best of luck.
