What should I include in my personal statement for Dentistry admission?

Your personal statement should be a reflection of your interests and passions both in and out of school. A quick recount of the subjects you have chosen at A level and why they are relevant for dentistry will need to be included. However, the main focus should be on the work experience you have completed. It is a good idea to get a mixture of work experience from different places e.g. a general practice and a referral clinic. When writing about work experience it is important to mention an instance where you felt particularly inspired to become a dentist, describing what happened and the qualities that make a good healthcare professional.

Extra-curricular activities are worth mentioning as well. Any involvement in team sports can be related to working in a dental team with a nurse and technician etc. Volunteering is another activity that is really worth mentioning if you have completed any. It shows commitment to a cause and experience of interacting with people outside of a school environment. Your personal statement should read well and not include any medical jargon that you wouldn't be able to define or talk about in an interview. I would be happy to read a draft of your statement if you have one and offer some more tailored advice.
