Firstly, animals are kept in cramped conditions. While this allows for the cheaper production of larger amounts of meat this is unethical and causes unnecessary stress to the cooped up animals. The temperature is also controlled. This is advantageous as animals use less energy to keep warm and so they retain their size. However, it also leads to an increase in global warming. Antibiotics are also used. While this stops the animals getting infections, it can also result in residual chemicals building up in the food chain which can have future dire consequences for the human community when they unknowingly consume the antibiotics, potentially leading to antibiotic resistance.
