How should I approach a close reading analysis of a poem?

First identify points of interest in the poem; for instance, unusual/ emotive words, punctuation, word-sounds or images. Then thoroughly break down a select few of these, making sure to mention how they affect the tone and rhythm of the poem. Analyse their sound, placement, meaning and connotations. Link your points together by indicating how the images you have analysed interact with each other. Finally, put the close reading in the wider context of the poem.
