Work out the value of 2a^2 + b^3 when a = 5 and b = –3

To work out the values you need to sub in a and b into the equation, giving you: 2(5)2 + (-3)3 From this we use the rules of BODMAS to first complete the orders and obtain: 2*25 + (-27). Again using BODMAS we multiply 2 by 25: 50 + (-27). Lastly we subtract 27 from 50 as a + and negative together gives a negative: 50 - 27 = 23.

The equation of the line L1 is y = 3x – 2 . The equation of the line L2 is 3y – 9x + 5 = 0 Show that these two lines are parallel.

solve the simultaneous equation: 5x+y =21 and x-3y=9

A common question would be how to factorise into two brackets, for example x^2 + 5x = -6

Factorise and solve: x^2 - 8x = -15
