What is "Umgangssprache"?

Like in English, there is big difference between written German and spoken German. Umgangssprache means common speech, and if you visit Germany or are going on an exchange and want to sound more natural when speaking, here are a couple of tips!
Drop your endings! Instead of "Ich habe" [haaber], say "Ich hab'" [hab]. The same works for the likes of "Ich hoffe/ ich wäre/ ich glaube" etc (Ich hoff', ich wär', ich glaub').
Likewise, you can drop your "beginnings"! With cases such as "eine/einen", you can drop the ei-. Example: Ich habe eine Pause: Ich hab' 'ne Pause. Ich muss einen Text schreiben: Ich muss 'nen Text schreiben (this works best if you are already confident at speaking, and do so relatively quickly).
Shorten Phrases! Instead of "Wie geht es dir?", say "Wie geht's dir?", or even shorter- "wie geht's?". Words like "darauf", can also be shortened when speaking, for example to "drauf".
