What makes up a balanced diet?

A balanced diet supplies all the essential nutrients for the body to function. There are 7 essential nutreints, each with a differnt function in the body. Carbohydrates provide energy Fats/lipids act as an energy storage, provides insulation and physically protects the organs Proteins are essential for growth and repair of tissues and makes enzymes Vitamins have different functions depending on which vitamin it is. E.g Vitamin D is needed for calcium absorption Minerals also have different functions depending on which one. E.g Iron is used for haemologbin in the blood Fibre helps food to move through the gut Water is used as we need a constant supply to replace water lost through sweat, urination and breathing
