Work out an estimate for the value of (8.1 x 198)/0.0491

So, the question has asked to "estimate" not calculate an exact answer. Therefore, the first step is to round the values into ones that are easier to work with: 8.1 -> 8 ; 198 -> 200 ; 0.0491 -> 0.05 Now, we will simplify the fraction and don't forget to show your work: 8 x 200 = 1600. How did I do that? Well, I know that 8 x 2 = 16. 200 is just 2 x 100. So applying the same concept: 16 x 100 = 1600. Next, we divide 1600 by 0.05. We can convert the decimal into a number easier to work with. By multiplying it by 100, 0.05 becomes 5. But whatever you do to one part of the fraction you have to do to another. So multiply the top by 100 giving you 160000. Now it is just 160000/5. Use long division and you get 32000.
