How do I structure my personal statement?

When writing your personal statement it is important to be concise and keep everything as relevant as possible. Begin by demonstrating your interest in the subject you are applying for and why you are interested in it. Then go through each of your A-level subjects and explain how each one will be beneficial to you in preparing you for your university course.

Make sure you outline the skills you have developed from your A-level subjects and how you will be able to apply them to a similar or different subject (not all of your a levels will necessarily be directly related to your desired university course, but it is important to demonstrate how you will be able to extrapolate certain skills and knowledge and make use of them in different contexts).

You could mention what you found the most interesting, and what you found to be challenging, and how you overcame any difficulties you encountered.

In your penultimate paragraph, briefly outline any extra-curricular activities you have undertaken and why they have been beneficial to you.

You should end your personal statement by reiterating your interest in the subject you are applying for, and demonstrate enthusiasm for continuing your studies.
