How do I write a good introduction?

When presented with an exam question for a text you should consider what themes are at the centre of the question and how the examinar wants you to demonstrate your knowledge of the text. You can do this by deconstructing the language used and highlight the key words in the question. For example, if you are given a question that asks how the author presents a character, you should make some notes and ideas about the author, the character and techniques/themes/language/context.

To write a good introduction to an essay, you should: firstly, reflect the language used in the question to show you focused and engaged. Secondly, you should consicely introduce your key arguments in answering the question.
