Explain how blood sugar level is controlled in the body?

The control of different substances in the body keeping them at a stable equilibrium level is called homeostasis. One area of this is blood sugar level control, if blood sugar level is too high or too low then it can put a person in a dangerous state. The body has various chemicals and sensors used to prevent the blood sugar levels rising or dropping to much. Your body breaks down food into glucose which then enters the blood stream and used as a source of energy for cells. After ingesting food, the pancreas releases insulin (made by beta cells). Insulin allows glucose to enter the cells of the body, decreasing blood sugar levels. When blood sugar levels are too low glucagon is released (produced by alpha cells), glucagon results in glucose being released from the liver into the blood stream until a normal blood sugar level is reached. Insulin and glucagon work against each other to maintain a normal blood sugar level. Each is released in response to a change in the blood sugar level either an increase or decrease.
