Explain how an increase in greenhouse gases can result in climate change?

Greenhouse gases include methane and carbon dioxide. These gases enhance the greenhouse effect which consequently warm up our planet.

The sun's energy arrives as short wave radiation, this type of radiation can travel through greenhouse gases. This energy is then reflected off the Earth as long wave radiation. This type of radiation cannot passes through the greenhouse gases so is reflected back to Earth. This trapped heat then causes the planet to warm up resulting in climate change.
