Describe how the body maintains its water concentration

Homeostasis- is the principle by which the body maintains a constant internal environment in order to provide optimal conditions for the cells and enzymes to function. Water is taken in via drinking and as a result needs to be maintianed. Water is lost from the body via sweat and through respiration in water vapour, these are both uncontrollable. However water is also lost via urine which can be controlled. if for e.g water levels are low receptors inside your kidney detect this change and send signals to the brain which in turn causes the pituitary gland to increase secretion of the hormone ADH. This helps the body retain more water- meaning you lose less water via urine. Hence the osmalarity of your blood is maintained
