Explain the role of plant hormones in plant shoot and root growth

Auxins are degraded within the tips of the shoots of the plant exposed to sunlight, and gather on the shaded side of the shoots. Gathered auxins enourage cell elongation, and the shoot to grow upwards, towards the sunlight, against gravity. In the roots, auxins have an opposing effect, inhibiting the elongation of cells, causing the roots to grow downwards, towards sources of minerals and water.
