Explain how SSRI's ares used in the treatment of depression.

SSRIs or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can be used to treat depression. They are used as they inhibit the reuptake of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, in the presynaptic cell. This increases the level of serotonin and, therefore, prolongs the effect. This has been shown to help with depression as there is normally an imbalance of serotonin in people who struggle with depression.
