How can I write a good university personal statement?

This is admissions tutor's opportunity to get to know you. It's difficult when they don't have verbal and visual cues like they do in 'real life', so use the page to really get your personality across. Make your statement stand out. Think how many statements the admissions tutor has read: on the same day as yours, but also over the course of his or her career. Yours needs to be one to remember. You are an individual: so your statement should reflect that! Try not to get wrapped up in cliches or set phrases, be honest and write in your own voice and you will stand out as an individual. Describe your skills and interests, and how these make you a good match for the course you have applied for. Give an indiciation of why you have applied for this course, but remember that everyone will say they are interested in the subject, so try and make your reasons a bit different. Maybe mention something that you have done that demonstrates your interest: an anecdote, work experience or placement. What about how it will help you progress your future plans?
