What is a sustainable city?

Sustainability is the ability to meet the needs of the present without impacting of the needs of the future. A sustainable city should consider three key areas; economics, social, and environment. The city should be able to provide a good standard of living for all its inhabitants, including aid for those who are unable to support themselves. Equally the city should have a healthy level of migration both in and outwards and strong infrastructure so that the city is well-connected to the surrounding area without becoming overwhelmed by movement of goods and people. The environments - rural and urban- must also be considered. Low pollution and waste levels should be maintained and resources should be used when only necessary, so that the city does not overuse them and leave nothing for future generations.
