Three forces (4i + 7j)N, (pi +5j)N and (-8i+qj) N act on a particle of mass 5 kg to produce an acceleration of (2i - j) m s 2 . No other forces act on the particle. Find the resultant force acting on the particle in terms of p and q. THEN find p and Q

Three forces : (4i + 7j)N , (pi +5j)N , (-8i+qj) N Mass = 5 kg acceleration = (2i - j) A.Collect like terms (4+p-8)i +(7+5+q)j = (-4+p)i + (12+q)j B. Recal_f=ma therefore: 5(2i-j)=(-4+p)i + (12+q)j 10i-5j = (-4+p)i + (12+q)j Look at equation seperately: for i: 10= p-4 therefore p must equal 14 for j:-5=12+q therefore q must equal -17
