Explian how aversion therapy can be used to treat unwanted behaviour such as smoking

Aversion therapy is where an unpleasant event accompanies the behavior that needs to be changed, so that the individual associates this behaviour with the behaviour and no longer does it. In the case of smoking, an emetic could be mixed with tobacco so the individual is sick when smoking. They would associate beng sick with smoking and would then stop smoking. This treatment can however be very unpleasant for the participant and they should be given the option to withdraw at any time. The treatment also may not last very long without additional support.
