Describe the role of RUBISCO in plants and evaluate the importance of RUBISCO in the Calvin Cycle? (8 Marks)

combines CO 2 with { ribulose bisphosphate / RuBP }
two molecules of { glycerate 3-phosphate / GP }

RUBISCO is important for the Calvin Cycle because:

It is an enzyme SO it lowers the activation energy for a chemical reaction to occur thus improving plant's { efficiency / chance of survival }

Helps produce { glycerate 3-phosphate / GP } which { is needed as a phosphate acceptor / undergoes phosphorylation } then it undergoes reduction to produce {Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate / GALP }

The GALP is used to produce Glucose which provides energy for the plant which is needed for plant growth

GALP is also needed for the continuation of the Calvin Cycle by being recycled to RuBP
