solve 6(x + 4) = 2x -4

The first step is to expand the brackets on the left hand side, you can either use the arrow method or the box method for this. This gives you: 6x + 24 = 2x - 4

Then you want to gather all the x's onto the same side, so you can minus the 2x from the left, giving you: 4x + 24 = -4

Now you want all the numbers to be on the opposide side of the = to the x's, so minusing 24 gives you: 4x = -28

Finally divide by 4 to find the value of one x: x = -7
