Both species are part of the same phyla, Echinodermata. They both live in marine environments, have the same feeding system, hasve ambulacra and tube feet, which they use for respiration. However, there are many differences between the species, which can be broken down into specific groups: Mode life (the environment they live in, and how they survive there): Regulars are benthonic, epifaunal, and live in high energy environments. Irregular are benthonic, infaunal, and survive in low energy environments Feeding: Regular are grazers, whereas irregular are particle filter feeders Symmetry: Regular show 5 fold symmetry, whereas irregular show bilateral Tube Feet functions: Regular use them for respiration, attachment and movement, whereas irregular use them for respiration, digging and maintaining a burrow Vasicles: Regular do not have these, however irregular use them to move water around their bodies
