how does aveoli allow for a more efficient gas exchange in mammals?

avoli are small chambers that branvh off from the bronchioles in the lungs, and is where gas exchange directly occurs. these have quite an ireegular shape and contain many fold in its structure, this allows for a larger surface area and therefore more gas exchange to take place at the same time.
