What is the effect of an increase in substrate concentration on the rate of reaction?

An increase in the substrate concentration increases the rate of reaction initially as more enzyme-substrate collisions occur, resultng in more enzyme-substrate complexes being formed.

Eventually maximum velocity is reached meaning that all active site are occupied with substrates so that further increases in the substrate concentration will not cause a change in the reaction rate.

(Enzymes are working at their fastest rate)
