How would I structure a 'discuss' question?

Firstly I would breakdown a discuss question into two parts, outline and evaluate and then for each paragraph you should outline key studies and then evaluate them. You should structure each paragraph using PEEL and make sure you are keeping your answers relevant to the question and using relevant sources of information. Once you have structured a few key paragraphs, you can then add an Introduction and conclusion.
I have given an example that I will explain e.g.
Outline Piaget's key stages of cognitive development (24)
One stage that Piaget explained was the Pre-Operational period. In this stage, Piaget argued that children are egocentric so they can only consider one perspective at one time which is their own view. There is evidence for this in the three mountains task. Piaget and Inhelder (1956) asked children aged between 4 and 12 to say how a doll, placed in various positions, would view an array of three mountains from different perspectives. They had to pick the photos they thought would show the doll’s view. Children under 7 years chose photos showing their own view. Piaget argues this is because they are egocentric. However, this experiment is criticised by Donaldson who argued that it is an unusual task to use with children who are unfamiliar with looking at model mountains and viewing things from other people’s perspectives. The children may not understand the task properly and therefore it may have affected their performance so the task may not be measuring what it’s intended to measure so it lacks validity. Borke responded to this criticism by using layouts of toys as children are more familiar with these. He found that children as young as 3 and 4 had some ability to view the layouts from other people’s perspectives, this was much earlier than Piaget suggested, therefore weakening his theory and suggesting that children aren’t as egocentric as he presumes.
