How do I analyse art?

When analysing art, you should first of all find out when the piece was created, who created it and what the piece was created using (for example, is it a painting? a sculpture or a photo?). After you have found out about when, who and how the painting was created, you should then start to use some of your own observations of the art piece- how does it make you feel? Is it a piece with lots of movement or is it very still and picturesque? After making some of your own personal obsvervations, you can then start to talk 'technically' about the piece- does it have a cool colour pallet? Is the piece modernist or post-modernist? What is the composition about? Other things you can talk about whilst analysing art is what the subject of the piece is, what is in the foreground and the background, what is the shapes in the piece and what what form does the piece take on? What is the line work like and what is the tone of the piece? Once you have mentioned everything you possibly can on the technicallity of the piece, you can do a conclusion on whether you like this piece, and how it helps your work going forward.
