What evidence is there to show that global warming exists?

There are several things that prove global warming is an existing problem. One of the main pieces of evidence is the rise in global temperatures. The increased production of greenhouse gases has resulted in ocean and land temperatures rising by 0.85 degrees celsius since the end of the 19th century. Furthermore, over the years photographic evidence has suggested that glaciers around the world are slowly retreating and sea ice in the artic is also beginning to melt due the rise in temperatures. Such conseuqences are causing significant problems in terms of the habitat for many animals living in an arctic ecosystems.

Perhaps more experimental, accurate data that has proved a rise in temperatures over centuries can be seen through the use of ice cores. When snow falls it traps air into the ice. Therefore when scientists take a core of ice, atmospheric gas concentrations over different periods of time can be revealed. These can then be used to calculate temperatures for each year over the past 400,000 years. These ice cores have produced compelling data proving that temperatures have risen significanlty over the years. When temperatures rise this can also cause thermal expansion in the ocean and seas, resulting in a rise in seas levels. Between 1901 and 2010, average global sea level rose by 0.19 m, proving that a rise in atmospheric and ocean temperatures due to global warming is an existing problem .
