How can I present my argument effectively when writing an essay?

The first step in presenting an argument effectively is knowing what argument the question is supporting. From there, you can either agree, disagree or produce a more nuanced view if you are able to. You should then spend no more than five minutes on a plan, bullet pointing what you are going to write in the essay. It can be according to broad themes or more minute facts, depending on how large the scope of the question you are answering. In the intro, define key terms and the set the reader up for your argument. When writing the main paragraphs, detail your points but more importantly link it back to the question and explain how your points support your argument. On the conclusion, summarise your main argument but also add a little wit in the last paragraph to retain the reader’s attention.
