How to work out a fraction of an amount?

The key rule is to divide the amount by the denominator and multiply by the nominator. E.g:

3/5 of 45£

divide by the denominator 45/5=9

multiply by the nominator  9*3=27

√5( √8 +√18) can be written in the form a√10 where a is an integer.

Simplify the following expression: √48+√(16 3/9) Give your answer in the form: (a√3)/b where a and b are integers.

For the equation, 5(7x + 8) + 3(2x + b) ≡ ax + 13. Find the values of a and b. You may use a calculator.
