The themes in Huis Clos are as follows: suffering, judgement, sexual desire, dishonesty and the afterlife. Our three main characters, Garcin, Inès and Estelle, arrive in a mysterious hotel together only to discover that they are in hell and are meant to torture each other psychologically. The reader is shocked when each character's ugly, twisted nature is brought to light as Sartre teaches us how we can avoid the same fate.
