What are the key features of the genre 'tragedy'?

The genre of tragedy often revolves around a mistake, conflict or downfall of a hero. The harmatia is the hero's past mistake which will involve deception and trickery to attempt to conceal their harmatia from other characters and sometimes the audience. Throughout the tragic novel or play, there will also be hints of the tragic hero's mistakes or concealment of their mistake, this is known as foreshadowing. However, the process of concealment is rarely successful and that is when peripeteia happens. Peripetia is the moment of the tragic hero's downfall, this is the moment where the hero's mistake is revealed to the rest of the characters and/or the audience - peripetia is the pivotal moment in novel or play.
