"Hormones are secreted by endocrine glands." Explain the meaning of this statement.

Firstly, lets define each of the important scientific words here. Hormones are chemical messengers in the body which aid in the chemical coordination of different functions, for example, related to homeostasis. In comparison to nerve impulses, they travel more slowly and generally take longer to act, however, the response is usually longer-lasting and can have more widespread effects on different organs. This, however, depends on the availability of correct receptors. Secretion is where a substance is released by a gland or cell, out of them, into the blood or intercellular space. Finally, endocrine glands are able to release hormones and they differ from the other type of gland, exocrine glands. This is because, exocrine glands release their products via tubes or ducts, for example, the salivary gland in the mouth. Endocrine glands are classed as ductless, because they secrete directly into the bloodstream.

Now, we can put each individual definition together to explain the entire statement. "Hormones are secreted by endocrine glands," means that chemical messengers in the body are released by glands directly into blood vessels without the use of a duct.
