How do I write a good extended essay?

When writing an extended essay, you have the freedom of choosing and researching independently the topic that interests you the most. It is an excellent opportunity to focus on a subject that you particularly enjoy, which will make your work more worthwhile as you will be expanding your knowledge on a matter that you might be particularly passionate about. You are responsible for the investigation of the essay, and you must carefully consider the research question(s) and the amount of information that you will use as a basis for your discussion. You should begin by planning a preliminary outline that will envisage the structure of your essay. Be aware that this outline will reflect your initial knowledge on the subject you chose; the readings and the information that you will collect will influence your thoughts and the essay's structure. Therefore, try to keep a flexible approach and do not be afraid of altering your initial outline.
The amount of reading material that you will consult is directly proportional to the time that you will spend writing and worrying about the word limit. If you dedicate an ample amount of time to research and read books and articles on the topic, you will obtain more information than you need, which will allow you to focus on the structure and quality of your writing, your eloquence, and the ability to express your ideas concisely.
