How do you analyse an artwork

In order to analyse an artwork students should build an interpretation (an argument) about an artwork and use observations of that artwork to support their interpretation. 

An analysis is not merely a description. Everytime you describe something about the artworks in the body of the essay you should explain why that particular aspect is noteworthy. This is the destinction between what and why​​​​​​. What did you notice about the artwork, and why is it important.
