What is the difference between the genotype and the phenotype?

An organism's genotype is the complete set of genes that they inherit from their parents (half from each parent). Their phenotype is the set of characteristics that are seen/observed, as a result of their genotype and their environment. Dominant alleles will always be shown in the phenotype but recessive alleles will only be shown if they are homozygous recessive for that gene.
