What are the enzymes involved in the process of DNA replication?

DNA Helicase - unwinds and unzips the DNA double helix by breaking the hydrogen bonds DNA Gyrase - this helps to stabilise the single strands Single-Strand Binding Proteins - these proteins, though not exactly enzymes, hold the two strands apart and prevent them from rejoining DNA Polymerase 3 - main enzyme invovled in the synthesis of of the new strand of DNA and it replicates in a 5'->3' direction only (continuous function on the leading strand and discontinous on the lagging) RNA Primase - this makes a short chain of RNA which forms a primer to enable the initiation of replication DNA Polymerase 1 - this removes the primers and replaces them with DNA fragments DNA Ligase - this seals the nicks in the gaps between the Okazaki fragemtns which forms as a result of the discontinous replication on the lagging strand, resulting in the formation of a full DNA strand
