What is a redox reaction?

A redox reaction is a reaction where both reduction and oxidation are happening simultaneously.

Reduction is the gain of electrons, where as oxidation is the grian of elctrons. I like to remember this using the acronmym OILRIG:

Loss

Reduction

Is

Gain
