What should I include in my Personal Statement when applying to study medicine?

When writing a personal statement for medicine there are a few things that MUST be included. Unlike with other subjects such as chemistry or biology where you'll have some idea of what the subject entails; Medicine is completely different in a sense that it's a vocational degree ultimately leading to a career as a doctor. Therefore your personal statement needs to include details pertaining to the work experience and Volunteering work that you have done to show that you have a realistic appreciation for what being a Doctor is like. The main body of your personal statement must revolve around this. But be careful not to just list what you've done and where. The most important part of your personal statement is reflecting on your experience. What skills did you learn? What did you observe that was different from what you expected? How has what you've seen reaffirmed your decision to become a doctor? While the body of your personal statement is arguably the most important part of your personal statement; the hardest section to write is the introduction. Be careful using cliches; and predictable answers. Try to be original; unique but most of all honest. The introduction should focus on why you've come to the decision of studying medicine.
