How do you add or take away fractions? E.g: what is 1/3 + 3/4

1/3 + 3/4

First we make the denominator the same. i.e: we would multiple 1/3 by 4 and multiply 3/4 by 3 in order to get the same denominator.

4/12 + 9/12.

Now you can add the numerator together as they have the same denominator. 4 + 9 = 13.

So 4/12 + 9/12 = 13/12.

Since we cannot simplify the solution, we can just leave the answer as 13/12.
