Explain how fair trade benefits the economies of developing countries (4 marks)

When farmers are involved in fair trade farming it means they receive a guaranteed fair price for they products (e.g. bananas or avocados), and therefore they have a consistent and secure income. This gives the farmers far more security and income in comparison to normal trading, where they can often be paid less than they deserve. This is highly benefitial for the farmers as it allows them to make enough income to re-invest in farming methods and increase their production further. As a result this will include the quality of life for those farmers, contributing to sustainable development.
