Opposition to anything that oppresses the human spirit is the element that dominates Blake's Innocence vs. Experience. How far do you agree with this statement?

It is important to have a clear structure in English essays. Blake's book of poems is divided into two parts; Innocence and Experience. This divide can be used as the structure for this essay (there are of course alternative options, however this is the most striaghtofrward, and thus means that there is less room for confusion). The Experience section of Blake's book constructs the image of opression found within the urban society. It is therefore key to address this. The Innocence section, on the other hand, presents man in his state of innocence. It is also important to note that the poem's in each section are mirrored in the other (little boy lost, in Songs of Experience, and little boy found, in Songs of Innocence). Such use of mirroring demonstrates the contrasting states of the human soul. These are just a few ideas one could pursue in an essay such as this. Other point of inquiry could also be analysis of techniques used (narrative voice, lexical connotations, structure of the poems, linguistic devices, symbolism, imagery...) Asides from the previous points, the introduction, conclusion and topic sentences are also key. For example, the introduction should act as a brief overview of what is being discussed, alongisde an overall opinion in regards to the 'what extent' part of the question. As for topic sentences, they should outline the key argument of that paragraph, but shouldn't go into too much depth. Additionally, the conclusion should be very similar to the introduction in terms of reinforcing one's overall opinion in response to the question. Here, it is important to use the terms of the question in order to make the argument as clearly as possible. It is important to note that the conclusion should not add any additional arguments not previously mentioned.
