"Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road is a text which portrays the pitfalls of the American Dream through the figure of Dean Moriarty, who exists in society as an unemployed and volatile delinquent, yet through who's life and shared experiences with Sal Paradise allows us to see the emptiness and social isolation of the economically and socially marginalised of the American post-war/cold war era.
