What is resonance

Resonance is the effect of an external driving force which causes a system to ocsillate with a greater amplitude at certain frequencies. All objects have a natural frequency, and this specific property determines the frequency at which resonance occurs. When the force acting on the object is applied in a frequency which matches the objects natural frequency, there is a maximun energy transfer to the system and thus the system oscillates at a greater amplitude
