What is the difference between an ionic and covalent bond?

Ionic: Metal and non Metal bond fomred , Metal DONATES an electron. electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions in a chemical compound Covalent: Bond between two non metals (similar electronegtativites) , The electrons are SHARED in outer orbitals. chemical bond SHAPE: Ionic bonds create Lattice Strcutures therefore high melting point , covalent bonds don't create a definiate shape. example of Ionic: NaCl (Sodium Chloride same as table salt) example of covalent: HCl (strong acid)
