How can I demonstrate my knowledge of current affairs at interview?

It is very important to have a general idea of what is going on in the world prior to your interview, and a good place to start is by reading the news daily. It doesn't have to be for long, provided you are reading a "good quality" newspaper such as The Guardian, The Times or the BBC website. Start by reading stories directly linked to your chosen subject, and if you have more time try to branch out to related subject areas, such as economics and politics for Law. Next, try discussing your reading with another - maybe a family member or friend. What do you think about the topic? Is your viewpoint substantially different to theirs? If so, why? Continually try to question your own reasoning, and if you find it very easy to defend your own viewpoint, try considering the issue from the other side and arguing for that instead. Has this changed your own view on the topic? University interviewers will constantly be trying to get you to reconsider a stance on an issue, or to consider it in more detail. By employing questioning methods such as the one set out above, you can become more comfortable with the lines of questioning you might face in an interview before the big day.
