To what extent did the actions of the British government cause the radicalisation of Nationalist ideology 1916-1921

To a degree British handling of members of the Easter rising did radicalise Nationalist politics. However, there were various other contributing factors that led to the growth of Sinn Fein and the growing separatist sentiment. Amongst these were: Redmond and IPP's support of the war and fleating appeal to the electorate. Furthermore, Sinn Fein played a role in developing their support base, amongst this was the manipulation of O,Donovan Rossa' s funeral.

Throughout the course of this examination each aforementioned factor will be explained and analysed. With the argument being presented that; British short falls, IPP incapability, as well as Sinn Fein ingenuity created a situation that allowed for the radicalisation of Nationalist sentiment, particularly within the southern counties of Ireland.
